If you’re a female driver, you already have a head start for getting cheap car insurance. Car insurance companies take into consideration statistics claiming that, overall, female drivers are:

? More likely to drive a safer car than male drivers.

? Less likely to commit traffic violations and get traffic tickets than male drivers.

? More likely to choose an economical car that gets good gas mileage and doesn’t cost a fortune to repair.

Don’t let these statistics discourage you. Being a young female driver also means you have time to start taking the necessary steps to build a great driving record. As long as you drive safely, preventing car accidents, and obey the rules of the road, preventing infractions and tickets, you will avoid points on your driving record. Car insurance companies look at a driver’s driving record when deciding how cheap the car insurance quote should be.

Also take a driver education course. Most high schools offer them, but if yours doesn’t you can take one from a private company in your area.

Saturday. Covenant Christian Academy will hold a car wash benefiting the school’s basketball and volleyball programs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Performance Suzuki of Houma at 1816 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in Houma next to the Girls Westside Softball Complex.

Monday. The 10th Annual Roger Bimah goalkeeper camp is set for July 19-23 from 6-8 p.m. at Andolsek Soccer Park in Thibodaux and is open for boys and girls 10 and up. The cost is $75 and campers must have medical insurance, must bring a ball, shin guards, water, sunscreen and goalkeeper equipment. Monday. South Lafourche High School will administer physicals on Monday for students attending the school and hoping to tryout out for athletics. Students should report to the athletic field house at the following times: 6 p.m. (seniors), 6:30 p.m. (juniors), 7 p.m. (sophomores) and 7:30 p.m. (freshmen). The only form that will be accepted is the Louisiana High School Athletic Association form. The athletes’ medical history must be completed and signed by a parent and the athlete or the physical will not be given. Physical forms can be picked up at the school’s front office. Also, there will be a parent/athlete meeting at 6 p.m. July 22 in the school auditorium for incoming freshmen planning to participate in football, volleyball, cross country or swimming. Returning students who did not participate in a sport last year at South Lafourche must also attend if they plan on playing in the fall. Athletes who participated in a sport at South Lafourche last year will receive athletic packets on the night of the physicals.
